I’m going to try to make these updates short and sweet, but am just SO EXCITED that I’m the one bouncing up and down like a little baby goat.
Momma Merci had 2 doelings 🤩🤩 and they are the MOST PRECIOUS things!
They arrived a little earlier than expected, but momma and babies are doing great; we’re just keeping an eye out to make sure they are drinking enough milk so they can grow big and strong like momma!
Since we don’t have any LaMancha bucks ourselves (only Nigerian Dwarf bucks), these are the only full LaMancha kids we’ve ever birthed at the farm because Merci was already bred with a LaMancha buck named Jaxon (from Platte Valley Goats) before we brought her home and we are SO SO SO thrilled to have these little girls.
SO thrilled, that we’ve decided to keep them - BOTH!
Yes, we have decided to retain them both and these doelings will be our best milkers when it’s their time to breed, as they have fantastic milking genes from their mom and their dad!
*proud new grandma here*
Their Colorings & Size
Officially in the goat world, the technical term for their coloring is “Sundgau” which basically means black body with tan facial stripes and underbelly.
The tan markings can range from pale cream to dark brown.
These beauties are literally 99% identical visually, however when they’re side by side you can tell that one is just a shade lighter for her tan markings than the other.
We weighed them shortly after they arrived and they weighed in at approx 8 lbs each, one slightly larger than the other.
What is in a name?
Well, I bet you’re wondering what we named them?
Last year we also retained twin girls from our LaMancha Daisy when she was crossed with one of our favorite Nigerian Dwarf bucks “Bucky”. They were our first Mini Manchas and we named them Maple and Honey.
Since we have a feeling these 4 will be fast friends as these little ones grow up, we decided to keep with the food-ish theme and found a couple of spices that we love as their namesakes.
Our lighter girl we named “Ginger” and our slightly darker girl we named “Cinnamon”.
Wrap up
Well, this post is simply intended to introduce you to our new arrivals so we’ll wrap it up here.
There’s no telling when we’ll have our next kids as these first ones were earlier than expected, but we imagine the next ones will arrive somewhere around the last week of March so you should be hearing from us again soon with more pictures and updates :)
